The Pagan-Judaist-Christianized View of Paradise, Hades and “Hell” (Gehenna) “underneath the earth”

In the context of the Bible, there is not an inkling that man will have a ‘second chance’ after death.  Our eternal destiny is fully settled at the moment of death.  “Man will die once and after that the judgment,” (Heb. 9:27, Eccl. 9:5-6, KJV.)

Even under the Old Covenant, Jesus said in Luke 16 that the human spirit of the beggar, at his death, was carried to Abraham’s bosom, (an allegory of heaven) known as ‘paradise,’ while the rich man’s human spirit was carried to hell not Hades or the grave!  Jesus said to the man next to him on the cross, “Today [when we die your spirit] will be with Me in ‘heaven,’” (Luke 23:43.)  Hell is the real but spiritual place of eternal punishment in darkness or outside the presence of God in a furnace/lake of fire, for all disobedient angels and humans, (Isa. 14:9-16; Mt. 25:30; 41, 46; Rev. 19:20.)

Jesus knew exactly where heaven or paradise is seated; He made the heavens, earth, spirit worlds, and everything in it, (Heb. 1:1-14.)  Jesus’ Throne is located in heavenAt His human death on the cross His human spirit ascended into heaven.  James 2:26 states that the body is dead without the [human] spirit.  But after He rose from the dead in a glorified physical body, Jesus literally or bodily ascended through the clouds into heaven while His disciples watched Him go.  He promised them that this is exactly how He will return,  (Luke 24:39; Acts 1:9-11; Col. 2:9-10.)

1 Thessalonians 5:23 makes it clear that man is a tri-part person with a human spirit, soul or mind, living in a physical body.  As both heaven and hell are in the spirit world, it is clear that the human spirit, at death, arrives at the person’s eternal destiny, while the soul dies with the body and is buried in the grave or ‘Hades,” the “underworld” or realm of the dead.  Scholars who view the Bible according to the Old Testament Covenant and pagan dogma, (not according to Jesus’ eternal New Testament Covenant and in the context of the whole Bible,) believe that before Jesus’ atonement on the cross, paradise or heaven was the world of the “righteous dead, “[Abraham’s bosom in Hebrew terms,] which was located underneath the earth in ‘Hades.’  However, this was not God’s heaven, way beyond the blue somewhere, (Lu. 16:26.)

This hell/hades, paradise/heaven confusion came about because ‘Abraham,’ (an allegory of Jesus in the parable of Luke 16,) said to the rich man, “Between us [in paradise] and you [in hell] there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.”  Hence, I see a pagan influence in the interpretation of the so-called ‘prior location of paradise’ such as Catholic “purgatory,” because pagans believed Hades, the realm of the dead, consisted of paradise and hell that were (and still are) both located underneath the earth, but divided by a ‘great gulf.’  That’s why some Bible scholars say the rich man of Luke 16 actually went to Tartarus or Ghen-en-nah - a so-called even lower level of Hades, called ‘the abyss.’  The ‘abyss’ is supposedly also the “lake of fire” or eternal hell, while Hades  is actually the grave,  (Rev. 20:14-15.)  Yet, according to “the entirety” of Bible truth, this does not mean that both paradise and hell “were” or are underneath the earth.  Everyone knows that the physical bodies of the deceased are buried “in the earth,” which means they are buried in their graves or in Hades.

¨ What Jesus illustrated in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, was not just that human spirits go either to heaven or to hell at the moment of death, but that heaven and hell are two completely different locations in the spirit world.  Jesus’ parable in Luke 16:31, was to illustrate that there is no chance to repent after death, and human spirits cannot and do not return to speak to the living, (Lu. 16:31.)  This was not a debate about the location of heaven and hell, (Eccl. 9:5-6; KJV.)  The entire Bible states that “...[All] men die once, and after this the judgment…” (Heb. 9:27.)

Sadly, there are always people who do not interpret Scripture in context, but use “difficult to understand” verses and passages from the Bible to support their twisted doctrines.  The following is such a ‘difficult’ passage which supports fertile breeding ground for error if not interpreted in the full context of the Word, (2 Pt. 3:14-18!)

Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:8-10, “When Jesus ascended on high, He led captivity captive… What does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?”  Allegedly this means that when Jesus died He descended into “hell” not upwards into heaven — or, as they say, He went first to paradise underneath the earth and then to the “lower parts of Hades” or into hell.  They believe Jesus descended into Shehole or ‘Upper’ Hades, the ‘paradise’ which, prior to the establishment of Jesus’ full blood-atonement, was allegedly the world of the righteous dead underneath the earth!  On that ‘paradise-level’ of Hades, Jesus supposedly released the spirits of the righteous dead, who, until that time, have been “waiting on the completed atonement of their Savior to ascend spiritually with Him into heaven.”  False teachers also allege that Jesus then moved this underground paradise to the ‘third heaven;’ the abode of the Tree of Life, (an allegory of Jesus Himself,) which is now in the midst of ‘paradise, the Garden of God’ or heaven, (2 Cor. 12:2-4; Rev. 2:7.)

¨ This is a very strange view of the Bible and especially the New Covenant in Christ, as Paul actually said that the Hebrews who lived and died under the Old Covenant Law will be judged by the Law.  Thus, even the Old Covenant believers “lived by faith” like Old Abraham did, “which was accounted to him for righteousness,” (Gal. 3:6; Rom. 1:16.)  This is why “the just who lived by faith” obeyed God ‘naturally’ according to Moral Law, [Heb. 10:16.]

Romans 2:11-29, “There is no partiality with God.  As many as have sinned without [the written] law will also perish without law [because they did not obey the Moral Law, which God has written on every human heart since the beginning of time.]  Not hearers and haters of the law will be justified, but doers of the law will be justified.  When [even the Gentiles who never heard about Christ] and [also did not have the written] law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although having no [written] law, are a law unto themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness…  in The Day when God will judge the secrets of men by... Jesus’ Gospel.”

Thus, the pagan/Christianized view of paradise in Hades or underground cannot be true.  But to be certain that this dogma cannot be from God, lets test this doctrine in the context of what happened when Jesus died.  Jesus proclaimed with His dying breath, “It is finished!” (Jn. 19:30.)  He actually proclaimed, ‘My complete atonement in the place of humanity is completed!’ (Mt. 5:17.)  Why then, would Jesus allegedly “atone further in hell,” if everything was already perfectly done at the moment of His death on the cross?  Additionally, in the Old Testament Covenant dispensation before Jesus’ atonement on the cross and His resurrection from the grave, if human spirits from opposite sides in Hades could converse with one another, (Lu. 16:26,) there was no need for Jesus to descend into the lower levels of Hades (or hell) to “preach to the [lost human] spirits in prison, who were disobedient while Noah prepared the ark,” (1 Pet. 3:19.)  Jesus could have preached to them directly from heaven!  We know they were in hell because they remained disobedient to God while Noah prepared the ark.

Also, this passage does not refer to demon spirits, because Noah prepared the ark to save a remnant of obedient humans, and Jesus’ blood atonement does not apply to demons, but to humankind! (1 Pt. 3:18-20; Jn. 3:16.)  If Jesus really preached and saved human spirits from hell, who were set in unrepentant sin, everyone else in hell would also get ‘a second chance,” wouldn’t they?  We know that is impossible, because God said, “Today, if you hear My voice, do not harden your hearts as [Old Israel] did in the rebellion… [and died,] (Heb. 3:15.)  “It is appointed for men to die once, and after that the judgment,” (Heb. 9:27.)  The rich man and Lazarus went directly to hell and heaven at the moment of death.  Jesus made it clear that God judges everyone at the moment they die.  There are no second chances after death

It is for this reason that God did not muffle our minds when He saved our souls.  And maybe Paul knew that ‘ravenous wolves’ like the pagan, Christianized, Roman Catholic papacy and their masonic orders would mess with the Scriptures to insert some of their false doctrines.  Thus, he commanded in 1 Thessalonians. 5:21-22, “Test all things, [all teaching, spiritual manifestations, and also what is written in the Bible according to the full context of Scriptural truth, viewed  in New Covenant Light.]  Hold fast what is good and abstain from every form of evil,”  [1 Jn. 4:1-4.)

We can never bring any kind of sacrifice for righteousness before the judgment throne of God, except the complete atonement of Jesus Christ in our place.  Similarly, we can never bring any good work to ‘earn’ our blessed state before the Highest Judge - except Jesus’ full obedience to fulfill the entire Law in our place

“IF YOUR GODHEAD IS ONE GOD AND EVER-PRESENT, HOW COULD GOD FORSAKE CHRIST JESUS ON THE CROSS?”

Born into this world as a mere man, the absolutely sinless God Jesus came to atone for humankind’s sin “in the flesh.”

Only as a mere human being, could the Almighty Christ Jesus, (Col. 2:9; Rev. 1:6-8,) suffer and endure everything humanity can suffer and endure.  Philippians 2:6-11, “[Christ Jesus,] being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, [while in the form of a mere human being.  This means, although He was human, He was still utterly Divine.]  [Yet, He] made Himself of no reputation by taking the form of a bondservant, [totally reliant on God as a mere human while living here on earth,] and coming in the likeness of man. [God became a mere man, and went to the cross as a human being with all the physical and emotional needs of a mere man.  He hung on that cross as a human being, not as God.]  And being found in appearance as a man, [being a genuine human being, but a totally unique human being because He was/is God Himself as well,] He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross… [And having then fully conquered the devil through His suffering, death, and resurrection, Col. 2:11-15,] God also highly exalted Him and gave Him the Name which is above every name, that at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow of those in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.”

At the crucifixion, in the ninth hour, while the Man Jesus hung on the cross, (3 p.m. our time,) physical darkness engulfed all the land as death stalked Him on the cross.  Shortly afterwards, Jesus fulfilled the most important part of David’s Old Testament prophecy in Psalm 22 when He cried aloud, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? [which means,]  My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”

The Man Jesus was petitioning His Father in the Syrian language on the cross.  Jesus was not, as most Charismatic Christians believe, “speaking in tongues” on the cross.  “For he who speaks in [an unknown or angelic] tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him, as he speaks mysteries in the spirit,” (1 Cor. 14:2; 15:1; 13:1.)

Tragically, even Bible scholars try to diminish either Jesus’ complete humanity or Jesus’ complete Divinity – while others such as the Seventh Day Adventists and Jehovah’s Witnesses try to make Him into a half-man-half-angelical being of some kind.  The entire context of Biblical Scripture in both the Old and New Testaments makes it plain that the human being Jesus Christ was completely God in the fullness of human ‘flesh,’ or in the form of a human body, (Col. 2:9.)

When Jesus Christ was “begotten” (not created) as a human being, God Himself took on humanity in totality, and so, Jesus’ cry on the cross describes the frailness of His human body and its human needs in every aspect — His human need for the presence and mercy of Almighty God especially.

Yet, it remains unthinkable that His Divinity could have forsaken Him at that moment.  Jesus is, was, and always will be One God.  Although He is the Son of God in The Scriptural, Inseparable Godhead, (Col. 2:9,) the God of the Bible was, is, and will always be One God: the undividable, unfathomable Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, (Mt. 28:19-20.)

Through Jesus’ human life on earth, He could call on the help and comfort of the Holy Spirit and His holy angels, (Mt. 3:16-17.)  However, since His arrest in Gethsemane, He had to restrain their ministrations, (Mt. 26:52-54.)

¨ In the place of all humanity, to atone in full for their separation from God, Jesus had to go to the cross without His Divinity.  The ever-present Holy Spirit and the mighty angels were there all the time, but this time, Jesus had to finish the terrible work of humanity’s salvation and redemption on a human level without Divine support, (Rom. 8:11.)

On the cross, God in the flesh or the Man Jesus Christ was truly and utterly forsaken in His humanity, (not in His Divinity, which is ever-present,) so that all true, personal believers can be fully accepted by God through His complete atonement in their place.  The fall in Eden, by ‘default,’ separated and thus estranged humanity from God.  “All, like sheep, have gone astray… there is not one righteous…”  (Isa. 59:2; Rom. 3:10-18.)

¨ So, the complete abandonment of Jesus in His own humanity imputed, (conferred or transferred) the Father’s complete acceptance to all true believers, (Eph. 1:6; Col. 2:10; Heb. 13:5-6.)  The man Jesus Christ was really and utterly forsaken in our place.  Still, God Jesus never lost His position in The Godhead while His human body (and soul, where the intellect, emotions, and will are seated, 1 Ths. 5:23,) were forsaken.  Even in this hour of incredible torment, the man Jesus clang unwaveringly to The Godhead, (Rom. 1:20; 1 Tim. 3:16.)

Jesus’ complete Sin-Offering finally ended when He died on the cross, (Col. 2:13-15.)

It was finished.

The battle was over.

The enable humanity’s salvation, redemption, blessing, and everything else encapsulated by it, Jesus fulfilled the entire Law for all believing humanity for all eternity, (Jn. 19:28-30!)  Nothing could, or ever can be added to itJesus had made it through in His flesh; He could finally surrender His humanity into the eternal hands of the Father in heaven.

It is beyond the capability of humanity to comprehend the depth of Jesus’ abandonment on the cross.  Similarly, it will always remain humanly impossible to truly understand the depth of God’s complete acceptance of humanity through the abandonment of His human Son Jesus Christ on the cross — God Who became a man to rescue all believing humanity from eternal death, hell, bondage, and cursedness, (Jn. 3:16; Gal. 3:10-14.)  But then, as someone once said, ‘If we could understand God in all His infinite greatness, He would not be God at all.’

IF JESUS WAS/IS AND WILL ALWAYS BE GOD HIMSELF, HOW COULD HE PRAY TO GOD, SIT AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, AND BE THE ETERNAL HIGH PRIEST?

“The Lamb of God, Who took away the sin of the whole world” on the cross, (John 1:29,) being in the “form of” a condemned, yet completely sinless man, (Heb. 1:1-14 KJV,) had to endure the full brunt of God’s judgment to earn our  righteousness in Him.  Thus, He fulfilled all the precepts of the Old Covenant’s outward, ceremonial temple law, as well as all the precepts of the inward Moral Law by keeping it perfectly.  So, innocent of all sin, [scroll down on the page,] He carried the punishment for all the transgressions of the entire, dual law in the place of all lawbreakers, (all humanity,) to fully atone for our lostness, bondage, sin, and cursedness without God, (Mt. 5:17-20; Jn. 13:34; Rom. 3:9-31.)

Jesus Is God Who became a human being to live, suffer, pray, and die on the cross as a complete human being, not as God, (Jn. 1:1-14.)  Everything He did as a mere man on earth was in His humanity, not His Divinity.  Through His flawless conduct in the world, Jesus taught us by example how to live, pray, and obey the only New Testament Covenant law that He ever commanded His disciples: all the precepts of His inward Moral Law,  (Jn. 17:1-5; Mt. 6:5-13; Jn. 13:34.)

¨ So, it is important to understand that Jesus prayed for Himself in His humanity, not to Himself as God.  Through His prayers, the man Jesus constantly proved His human reliance on God to show us how utterly weak and helpless we are “in the flesh” as humans, and how reliant we are upon the constant mercy, grace, guidance, and strength of God.

The writer of Hebrews 2:8-9 teaches, “…[But at the cross,] all [things] were put in subjection under Him, He left nothing that is not put under Him…  We see Jesus, Who was made a little lower than the angels, [on God’s creation scale when He was born as a human being,] for the [purpose of] suffering and death, [as a mere man, to be] crowned with glory and honor [at His resurrection,] that He, by the grace of God, might taste death [on the cross] for everyone,” (Jn. 3:16.)

Jesus Christ lived as the Lamb of God here on earth; bound to “flesh” or humanity in this physical dimension just like we are in our mortal bodies.  Thus, He was subjected to all our bodily and soulical (or mental) weaknesses, (1 Ths. 5:23.)  Therefore, everything Jesus did as a human being, (such as praying continually to the Father in heaven, and wrestling unto blood in Gethsemane,) He did because of His human need for God — and as the perfect example for us.  1 Peter 2:21-25 explains, “To this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.  [He] committed no sinbut committed Himself [in His humanity] to Him Who judges righteously, Who Himself, [God Jesus never loosened Himself from His Divinity in heaven, Hebrews 1:8-12,] bore our sins in His own [human] body on the tree, that we, having died to sin, might live for righteousness — by Whose stripes we were healed… our Shepherd and the Overseer of our souls.”

The metaphor of Jesus on the throne at the right hand of the Father is a figure of Jesus in His ascended, glorified human body and heavenly capacity as the Only, Eternal Mediator and High Priest, (Col. 2:9; Lu. 24:39; 1 Cor. 15:50-54.)  This allegory shows that by sitting, (or standing as the martyr Stephen saw Jesus at his death,) “next to the throne of God,” He is the perfect Mediator between God and man, (Acts 7:55-56.)  This “vision” of Jesus was not ‘literally,’ as in Jesus standing (or sitting) as a separate person or god at  the right hand of the Father.  The God of both the Old and New Covenants is ever-present, or everywhere in heaven and the universe at the same time.  But Jesus hung on the cross as a mere man, not as God.  As a condemned human being who suffered in our place, Jesus had to endure it all without His Divinity, because He was atoning for all our separation from God; our cursedness, bondage, weaknesses, and sin.

¨ Hence, this allegory of Jesus is an important sign or demonstration, which proves that, by His full atonement in our place, He became the One and Only, glorified, perfect Mediator between God and all humanity.  Jesus, in His Divinity, was not and can never be separated from God the Father.  Jesus is God Himself.  This allegory proves the truth that “There is One God and One Mediator between God and men, the [glorified, resurrected] Man Christ Jesus,” (1 Tim. 2:5.)  This is not Pentecostal Oneness or Jesus-Only doctrine.  This is the entire contextual truth of Scripture.

Jesus seated at the right hand of the Father is also an allegory of Him as Everlasting High Priest.  Although He indwells His blood-cleansed body of believers through the Holy Spirit, they remain in the world and exposed to the darkness of the world, (Rom. 8:9-11; 1 Cor. 6:15-20; Jn. 17:6-26.)  Thus, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, He also constantly intercedes for us as High Priest.  Romans 8:26-27, “Likewise, the Spirit also helps us in our weaknesses.  For we [as mere humans] do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.  Now He Who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is because He makes intercession for the [blood-cleansed] saints according to the will of God.”

In John 17:9-26, the Man Jesus, just before He went to Golgotha, stood in His capacity as Mediator and High Priest, which was to come after His resurrection, (Heb. 3:1-6; 4:14-16.)  He interceded for His disciples, saying, “I pray for them.  I do not pray for the [disobedient] world, [who would reject Me as Eternal God, Savior, Mediator, and High Priest, like those who claim to be ‘high priests,’ mediators, ‘gods, and christs,’] but I pray for those whom You have [entrusted] to Me, for they are Yours.  And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, [because God is Inseparably Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Mt. 28:19-20;)] and I am glorified in them…  I have given them Your [true] Word and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, [obedience to Jesus’ real Scriptural truth separates real disciples from mere church members,] just as I Am not of the world, (Jn. 18:36.)  I do not pray that You should take them out of the world [before My return to ‘gather [all] the [true] saints,’ Mt. 24:29-31,] but that You should keep them form the evil one…  Sanctify [and deliver Jn. 8:32 KJV] them by Your Truth.  Your Word Is Truth…”  (Heb. 7:11-13; 4:14, 31.)
